Change Star
The Outcomes Star for behavior change for men

The Change Star is suitable for use with men who are participating in a behaviour change programme or other service for perpetrators of domestic abuse:

  • The Change Star is designed to be completed one to one
  • It is intended to be a therapeutic tool as well as helping services to capture information on outcomes for the men participating
  • The overall aim of the Change Star is to keep women and children safe, so the emphasis is on how men can become safer for their partners and children to be around

The Change Star was developed by Triangle in collaboration with UnitingCare Queensland in Australia.

The Change Star covers six outcome areas looking at attitudes, behaviour and accountability, and also on the well-being of men in the programmes:

  1. Taking responsibility
  2. Thinking and attitudes
  3. Safe actions and reactions
  4. Communication
  5. Being a good father
  6. Your well-being

The underlying model of change underpinning the Change Star is a Journey of Change with five steps:

  1. Stuck
  2. Engaging
  3. Acknowledging
  4. Learning new ways
  5. Being respectful

Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
