Shooting Star
The Outcomes Star for children and young people in school

Copyright: Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise Limited

The Shooting Star is designed for school students, to capture more holistic outcomes and give a greater emphasis to outcomes beyond academic achievement. The Shooting Star was originally designed for secondary school settings but later tested successfully in primary schools.

The Shooting Star was developed by Triangle with Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) and with funding from Nesta and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

The Shooting Star captures where young people are in six key outcome areas intended to complement a sometimes narrow focus on exam results:

  1. Aspiration
  2. Contribution
  3. Confidence
  4. Learning
  5. People and support
  6. Communicating

The Shooting Star is based on a five-stage Journey of Change:

  1. Not interested
  2. Considering it
  3. Having a go
  4. Working on it
  5. Actively enjoying it

Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
