Who we are
The Outcomes Star was originally created and continues to be developed and disseminated by Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise, with our skilled, varied and growing team of Star People (trainers and consultants), Star Creatives and Star Support. Each brings a wealth of experience to their work with Triangle and many have decades of expertise in one or more sectors.
Sara Burns
Sara Burns is a founding Director of Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise and co-author of the family of Outcomes Stars. She leads on the development of new versions of the Star, the Star Online and responding to the extensive and growing interest in the Stars from service providers and commissioners. She also leads on the development of Star training and delivers some Star training, including for licensed trainers.
With a background in research, evaluation and a period in the Latin America department of Christian Aid, Sara pioneered a practical outcomes approach for voluntary organisations in the early 1990s and has worked in this field ever since. Her early work showed how outcomes could benefit service providers and their clients and won the Charity Awards in 2000. She is author of a number of publications on Outcomes.
Sara also runs mindfulness courses for stress reduction and is author of a book on Buddhism and parenting.

Joy MacKeith
Joy MacKeith is a Director of Triangle Consulting, which she founded in 2003 with Sara Burns and Kate Graham. Her background is in homelessness and international development; she also taught at the Centre for Civil Society at the London School of Economics and is author of a number of publications on the management of NGOs and the tension between fund-raising and service delivery. Before starting Triangle she was a Director of Compass Partnership.
Joy is co-author of the family of Outcomes Stars and is actively involved in the development of new versions of the Star. Within Triangle she leads on internal business development and validation of the Stars. She has written a number of reflective pieces on outcomes and what the paradigm shift to an outcomes approach really means for services users, workers, managers and commissioners.
Joy has trained as a psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher and is currently training as a Focusing Practitioner.
Sarah Brimelow
Sarah is our Licensed Training Manager. In addition to course development and leading on the Licensed Trainer Programme, she helped develop the Work Star, Community Star and Success Star and has trained in all versions of the Outcomes Star for over five years.
Sarah is a qualified cross cultural trainer, coach and facilitator. She has an MSc in Human Resource Development, PGCE (Further Education) and Certificate in Leadership Coaching. She is also a Certified Practitioner in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and PRINCE2 Project Management and has expertise in training needs analysis and quality assurance.
Sarah has worked in the homelessness, youth and criminal justice sectors and has been a senior manager for Victim Support and consultant with the Youth Justice Board. She works both in the UK and internationally providing strategic planning and service design for client-led organisations.
Nick Karr
Nick helped establish and currently runs Outcomes Star Australia, after working with Triangle on the Stars in the UK and USA. Since 2010 he has provided training on all versions of the Star and is working with Australian government departments and non- government organisations to roll-out the tools across different programs.
Nick is a qualified psychotherapist with25 years’ experience in the UK in a range of specialist clinical roles, mainly in the NHS in mental health and substance misuse. In his private practice, he provided supervision and consultancy to practitioners and managers, as well as running a range of training courses for caseworkers. He holds a Masters’ degree in Social Work from the Tavistock Clinic in London and taught on university social work and mental health programs.
Kate Graham
Kate was a founding partner of Triangle Consulting and co-created the original Outcomes Star prototype for St. Mungo’s in 2003 and later the first published Outcomes Star in homelessness in 2006. She also worked with Triangle and NCVO on the Governance Star and Workforce Wheel. Since leaving Triangle in 2009 to complete a masters degree in Peace Studies at Bradford University she has worked with us as an associate and in 2011 jointly developed the Youth Star.
Kate started her professional career teaching in Africa then qualified as a Chartered Accountant before becoming a successful fundraiser for WaterAid and for CRDA in Ethiopia and later Director of Action Health.
Kate is a qualified NLP trainer and master practitioner and published a guide to NLP Mentoring for Oxfordshire Schools.
John Tierney
John worked on the development of the Spectrum Star for people on the autistic spectrum and runs training on the Outcomes Stars as well as supporting organisations with Star implementation and change management. He is also working with us on the planned suite of ‘back office’ Stars including staff development and partnership working.
John has an MBA and extensive experience of the public and not-for-profit sectors. He was a director of Compass Partnership and then established Transform Management Consultancy in 2003, specialising in strategic and change management for organisations committed to social change.
John’s background and career also includes the Audit commission and international development as Africa Programme Manager for Help the Aged and seven years with Voluntary Service Overseas, including Zambia and Belize.
Amargita Pearse
Amaragita worked on the development of the Shooting Star with young people in schools and contributed
to the development of the Sexual Health Star. With Triangle, she specialises in training in the Teen Star and new versions of the Outcomes Star for young people - the Youth Star, Shooting Star, Young Person's Star and Sexual Health Star.
Amaragita was one of the founders of the charity Youth At Risk UK where she worked for 10 years as Training Manager and Lead Trainer developing and delivering programmes to 'at risk youth' and the staff who worked with them. As an independent consultant she specialises in delivering coaching skills, mentoring and team building programmes that enable workers to intervene more powerfully with disempowered young people and adults with challenging behaviour. She has worked extensively with Liverpool City Council, Action for Children, Belfast Probation Services, Knowlsey Social Inclusion Unit and many others and brings this wealth of expertise to her work with the Outcomes Star.
Chris Glover
Chris started work with Triangle on the Outcomes Stars after a career spanning over 30 years in the NHS. She specialises in substance misuse but has trained in all versions of the Star and helped develop our courses combining keywork skills, motivational interviewing and the Outcomes Star.
Chris started her career as a nurse and was a senior nurse and later the Clinical Service Manager for Substance Misuse services within Camden & Islington. She has a Masters degree in Continuing Education, and held a Lecturer/Practitioner post split between Substance Misuse Services and the Middlesex University, which involved the development and delivery of the Dual Diagnosis Masters programme alongside clinical work and supervision. Chris undertook Motivational Interviewing training and is part of an international network of MI trainers and is an accredited mediator.
Sandra Greaves
Sandra worked on the development of the VIP Star for people with vision impairment in 2011 and will be a core part of the team on writing and editing future versions.
Sandra is a communications consultant and writer with over 20 years experience. The founder editor of Third Sector, the news magazine for charities and voluntary organisations, she has also worked as a journalist, television producer and brand consultant. She is now a freelance consultant and copywriter, specialising in producing clear, effective and engaging communications for a wide range of audiences. She has a first class degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and has recently finished her first novel.
Kirsty Buggins
Kirsty developed and ran the consultancy and training business for Homeless Link, including in training and consultancy in the Homelessness Outcomes Star. Within this role, she developed a two-day course combining keywork skills and the Outcomes Star and a number of implementation support packages. Since leaving Homeless Link in 2010 to become an independent management consultant, Kirsty started work with Triangle as a Star Associate and now delivers training and consultancy in all versions of the Outcomes Star. She also brings with her considerable experience of implementation of the Star within the homelessness sector, with both the rewards and challenges.
Kirsty has a background in career advice working with under 25s before holding management roles within a number of sectors, including homelessness. In her on-going work as a management consultant, Kirsty specialises in supporting organisations to improve sustainability, manage change and measure impact. In 2012 she will help establish and then run Outcomes Star New Zealand.
Paula Doran
Paula has worked on largely Government funded health and social care initiatives in the voluntary and statutory sectors such as health promotion, employment services, sexual health services and Sure Start.
As a Regional Manager for Family Action Paula has been responsible for a wide range of adult mental health and children and family services in London and the South West funded by local authorities, PCTs, NDCs, schools, BLF and charitable trusts.
Having established a Family Star pilot in Family Action’s Wandsworth projects in 2010, as part Triangle Consulting’s development process, Paula then supported the roll out of the Family Star across Family Action. Paula now takes a lead role on supporting the dissemination and implementation of the Family Star.
Jane Borer
Jane is the Triangle administrator and usually the first point of contact for all enquiries, via email and telephone. Jane also coordinates training sessions for clients, ensuring that the clients and trainers have everything organised. Other tasks include invoicing, distributing materials and assisting the directors.
Jane has a BA (Hons) in Library and Information Studies, and over 15 years experience of working in business research for two major firms, Coopers & Lybrand Deloitte and KPMG. At KPMG Jane was business research manager, responsible for the provision of business information services to the staff of KPMG across the UK. This involved recruitment, training and mentoring of staff, selection and trialling of relevant business information sources, marketing and promoting the service to the firm as a whole, and educating users on the resources available. Jane was personally involved in the roll-out of a firm-wide knowledge management programme. Prior to joining Triangle, Jane worked as administrator for a global business coaching company.
Jellymould - web, print and video
Jellymould helped us to create the Outcomes Star brand, produced the Outcomes Star website, designed the Star Online web application and the Outcomes Star newsletter. Time and again people comment on the exceptionally attractive, user-friendly and intuitive Star Online system - even people who don't like IT systems - creating an excellent user experience is one of the strengths Jellymould has bought to the Outcomes Star for many years. They continue to support us to maintain and develop these things and to help us ensure consistency across the board.
Jellymould have helped Triangle to develop the look and character of the Star since 2006 when they edited and designed the first published version of the Outcomes Star, in homelessness. They developed the distinctive visual tools, including the Star diagram and the various ladder designs for the brief versions of the scales, as well as many of the quiz-style formats. They continue to edit and design most versions of the Star.
Jo and Emile established Jellymould in 2001 to deliver cost-effective creative services to non-profits, including print projects, website and application development, and video production services. They have many years’ experience of working with the voluntary sector to create exciting, user-friendly tools and their current clients include Crisis, the London Housing Foundation, the Sheila McKechnie Foundation and, of course, Triangle Consulting.
Star Online helpdesk
The Star Online is the Outcomes Star web application. The Star Online helpdesk provides support to users of the applicaiton. This is managed by Jellymould. Jo Johnson manages the desk and Ruth Timmins provides day to day responses to users. They aim to provide a high quality, friendly and highly responsive support service to all Star Online users along with a packed knowledge-base of support materials.
