Teen Star™
The Outcomes Star for young people with complex needs including substance misuse

Copyright: Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise Limited

The Teen Star was developed for use with young people specifically in substance misuse services although it can be used in other settings where young people have complex needs.

Organisations are advised to consider My Star for more intensive interventions, or the Youth Star for more universal, community based youth work.

The Teen Star was developed by Triangle with a group of Camden service providers, including Forward (FWD), Alcohol Recovery Project (ARP) and Youth Offending Service (YOS). The development was funded through Camden Council Invest to Save, with additional testing by Aquarius.

There are six outcome areas in the Teen Star. These were designed to link to the five high-level Every Child Matters (ECM) outcomes:

  1. Drugs and alcohol
  2. Well-being
  3. Safety and security
  4. Structure and education
  5. Behaviour and citizenship
  6. Family and other key adults

The Teen Star is underpinned by a five-step Journey of Change:

  1. Not safe
  2. Want change
  3. Making changes
  4. Mostly safe
  5. Safe and well

Full resources are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star.
