New Mum Star™

The Outcomes Star for preparing for and looking after your baby

Copyright: Triangle Consulting Social Enterprise Limited

The New Mum Star is designed to be used with women who need support as they prepare to become mums and after their baby is born.

It is primarily designed for young, first-time mums but can be used more broadly. The New Mum Star was developed by Triangle in collaboration with the Family Nurse Partnership as part of their innovative ADAPT programme. The process involved workers, managers, service users and associated professionals.  Read more about the New Mum Star development process in a Q&A with Emma Cook, Clinical Quality Lead at Family Nurse Partnership National Unit and Sara Burns, Triangle Director. There are also materials available for this Star to suit birthing parents who don’t identify as mum. The New Mum Star covers nine areas:

  1. Life skills
  2. Your health and well-being
  3. Looking after your baby
  4. Your baby’s development
  5. Safety and stability
  6. Connecting with your baby
  7. Relationship
  8. Family and support network
  9. Goals and aspirations

Resources to use the Star on paper are available for organisations with a Star Licence and training for all workers and managers using the Star. We are also actively researching into the psychometric properties of the New Mum Star and Star data and plan to publish our findings on this area in the near future. Contact us for more information.
