Quality assuring your data

The validity of your findings using the Outcomes Star™ will only be as good as the quality of the data that you collect. We recommend the following measures to ensure that your data is meaningful:

  • Training: all workers using the Star should be trained and should have a good understanding of the ladder of change underpinning the Star. This is essential to ensuring meaningful readings.
  • Supervision: managers should review the Stars completed by workers during supervision sessions to ensure that the readings are accurate and identify where further support is needed.
  • Team meetings: workers should use the Star when reviewing individual service users in team meetings. As well as providing a quick introduction to the service user's current position it also provides an opportunity to build the team’s understanding of how the Star scoring works.
  • File auditing: during routine file auditing managers should ensure that Star readings are being taken and that they are accurate.
