Outcomes Star message board > Client's self ratings

We are looking to use the Outocme Star-Homelessness. In our initial trianing, our community support workers, who work with people once they are housed, had some questions about the administration. They felt the scales were too complex and at fairly high literacy level, for tenants to self rate. Are there any simplified scales for this population. For example, the teen star has a nice "Life Quiz" .
So if anyone has some ideas about fomat or methodology that would simplify..thanks

That is an interesting idea, to develop quiz options for some of the Outcomes Star versions aimed at adults as well as those for teenagers. We will consider that as a possible future development. At the moment the guidance for key-workers in the Organisational Guide recommends using the Star materials flexibly in response to clients and their literacy, engagement, reaction to paperwork etc. As long as workers have a good understanding of the underlying journey of change and are able to introduce and work with that accessibly, it is possible to just have the Star Chart on the table in sessions and agree scores using a verbal description of the main stages of the underlying journey i.e: stuck (1-2), accepting help (3-4), believing (5-6), learning (7-8) and self-reliance (9-10). Let us know how you get on with that.

We have developed illustrations for the dimensions of the Recovery Star and for the Ladder/Journey of Change. These are proving to be very helpful for all users but especially those with literacy or language issues. Go to www.mhpf.org.uk for further details.
